Fake news, also known as junk news, pseudo-news, alternative facts or hoax news, is a form of news consisting of deliberate disinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional news media (print and broadcast) or online social media. Digital news has brought back and increased the usage of fake news. Fake news is written and published usually with the intent to mislead in order to damage an agency, entity, or person, and/or gain financially or politically, often using sensationalist, dishonest, or outright fabricated headlines to increase readership. Similarly, clickbait stories and headlines earn advertising revenue from this activity.

Computational Intelligence and Data Analytics are active areas of current research for their potential application to many real-life problems. Computational intelligence is a set of nature-inspired computational methodologies and approaches to address complex real-world problems to which mathematical or traditional modeling can be useless for a few reasons: the processes might be too complex for mathematical reasoning, it might contain some uncertainties during the process, or the process might simply be stochastic in nature. Computational intelligence has now emerged as a powerful tool for information processing, decision making, and knowledge management and has been successfully developed in areas such as neural networks, fuzzy systems, evolutionary algorithms, bio-medicine.
Recently, data generation at huge scales from various sources like streaming data, social media content, electronic medical records, genomic and proteomic studies, and similar areas forms a data deluge that is hard to manage using traditional database technologies. Data analytics (DA) is the process of examining data sets in order to draw conclusions about the information they contain, increasingly with the aid of specialized systems and software. Data analytics technologies and techniques are widely used in commercial industries to enable organizations to make more-informed business decisions and by scientists and researchers to verify or disprove scientific models, theories and hypotheses.

Similarly, clickbait stories and headlines earn advertising revenue from this activity.
In this context this portal allows users to upload both in English and Malayalam fake news into the system. Along with textual content of the fake news we also provide options to upload the image and other related content associated with the fake news. The data which each user uploads is purely used for the research purpose of automatic fake news detection. The end goal of this project is the development of an automated fact checking system with minimal interaction or effort by the technical experts.
